Joint Statement Between ACBN and CBCN

In recognition of the higher purposes of our certifying boards we agree on this date to
the following statement.

It is understood that the primary purpose for certifying boards is to assure the general
public and its representatives that a recognized set of diplomates have undergone study
and additional training sufficient to demonstrate a level of proficiency in a specialized
area of practice.

We agree there is value in providing for clinical specialty certification whose goal is
to protect the public’s health and safety by recognizing their diplomates’ expertise in
treating and advising patients about clinical nutrition matters.

Further we agree to maintain ongoing lines of communication to address mutual areas
of concern and to facilitate the best interest of the public. ACBN and CBCN agree to
carry out our separate missions of certification and recertification without reference to
each other’s past, present or future positions and actions.
